Company Overview

CRL Offers Leading-edge Testing Services

CRL is a privately held reference laboratory offering leading edge testing services in the areas of Clinical Trials, Corporate Wellness Programs, Molecular Diagnostics, Insurance, and Toxicology, all under one roof at our state-of-the-art facility in Lenexa, Kansas.

CRL has grown from a group of six sharing one phone in 1979 to be one of the largest single-site laboratories in the country. We currently have over 500 employees, a 192,000 plus square foot "campus" and perform tests on millions of samples annually for hundreds of clients. We process samples 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and receive samples from all over the United States and many foreign countries.

Analyzing over 100 million tests annually, CRL is one of the largest privately held laboratories operating on a national basis. In addition, CRL has had the same core management group for the past eighteen years and has operated profitably in each of those years.

History

Clinical Reference Laboratory was founded in 1979 under the name Enzyme Technology. Enzyme Technology placed its emphasis on modifying and patenting immunoassay techniques used in toxicology, serology, and urinalysis. These research efforts continue today.

In 1983, Enzyme Technology began commercial testing and was renamed Clinical Reference Laboratory. CRL was one of the first commercial laboratories in the country to test for HIV and this was our initial market niche. As HIV became more prevalent and other laboratories brought HIV testing in-house, we diversified our product offering.

In the mid-1980’s, we started providing toxicology testing services and wellness programs to corporations and occupational health clinics. In 1988, we offered the insurance industry testing services for the evaluation of applicants in their underwriting process. In the early 1990’s, we began offering testing services to the pharmaceutical industry for use in clinical trials as new drugs went through FDA approval. With the surge in genomics testing upon completion of the Human Genome Project, in 2004 we added a full-service Molecular Diagnostics division to meet the increase in market demand for these services.
