Bound or Complex Prostate-specific Antigen (cPSA) (K133)

RISK ASSESSMENT VALUE:  Aid in the detection of prostate cancer.
NORMAL RESULTS:  Complex PSA 0-4 ng/ml Total PSA 0-4 ng/ml % Free PSA 15-75%
ABNORMAL RESULTS:  INcreased Serum levels due to benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostitis or adrenocarcinoma of prostate.
ADDITIONAL TESTS:  Total PSA % Free PSA DRE
SAMPLE NEEDED:  Separated serum from red or mottled-stopper tube.
SAMPLE STABILITY:  48 hours refrigerated; indefinitely when frozen. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
METHOD & INSTRUMENT:  Immunoassay.
INTERFERING FACTORS:  Less than a 5% change in results due to hemolysis (<500 mg/dL of hemoglobin), lipemia (<1000 mg/dL of triglycerides), icterus (<40 mg/dL of bilirubin) and proteinuria (<12.5 g/dL of protein). Individuals undergoing prostate manipulation procedures (prostate massage, rectal examination, prostatectomy or biopsy).
PURPOSE:  PSA complexed with ACT comprises a higher proportion of PSA in men with prostate cancer than men withot cancer. Total PSA along with Complex PSA provide additional information in the differential diagnosis of prostate cancer.
