Laboratory-Based Urine Testing

The gold standard, laboratory-based drug testing remains a cost-effective and legally proven solution. We continually invest in leading-edge technology and have a commitment to research to proactively address emerging substance abuse trends and associated testing protocols to achieve the greatest insights in the industry.

Offering the industry’s most extensive menu, we provide an expansive array of tests to detect dozens of medications, as well as illicit and synthetic drugs. At the root of our success is CRL’s flexibility to partner with you to customize testing options, including panels, ranges and workflows, to meet your unique needs.

Specialty Testing

CRL has demonstrated a commitment to the use of leading-edge technology to achieve the utmost sensitivity and quality in our testing, and proactively stay informed of emerging drugs of abuse and associated testing protocols. Some of our specialty testing services include:
  • Fentanyl Testing
  • Delta-8 THC Testing
  • Designer Benzodiazepines Testing

Fentanyl Testing

The rise in synthetic opioid overdose deaths has dramatically increased in the last decade - largely due to fentanyl overdose deaths. Cutbacks in the prescription availability of opioids resulted in the accessibility of heroin and the development of fentanyl analogs, which are as bad or worse due to their potency. Fentanyl is 100-fold stronger than morphine and 50-fold stronger than heroin.

Fentanyl testing can be performed in conjunction with any standard drugs of abuse test. Fentanyl is now mixed with various drugs other than opiates, including methamphetamine and cocaine. The evolution of fentanyl abuse has become a national disaster due to unexpected overdoses from recreational users who are not routine opioid users.

Delta-8 THC Testing

A new combination assay is now available to simultaneously test, measure, and accurately distinguish Delta-8 THC from Delta-9 THC. Traditionally, only Delta-9 THCA is reported as the standard urine metabolite. However, Delta-8 THC is the new primary alternative to Delta-9 THC that is promoted in the market as “legal marijuana.”

Use of these products is done with intent to circumvent drug testing programs, as Delta-8 THC traditionally has not been a reportable analyte in urine or oral fluid samples. Like the effects of traditional Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC has interactions at the CB1 receptor in the brain, which creates the psychological high associated with marijuana use. Although individuals claim the effects of using Delta-8 THC is slightly less potent, the impairment aspects have not been well studied. Therefore, it creates the same risk as traditional marijuana for operators of trucks, planes, cars, machinery, etc.

Designer Benzodiazepines Testing

Even though there are many FDA approved benzodiazepines available in the U.S., there are some compounds called “designer benzodiazepines” which are extremely potent and have not been approved for sale in any country. The extreme effects of these designer benzodiazepines and their impact on performance is particularly concerning in a workplace setting or for those driving a vehicle. Because these compounds are not part of a standard benzodiazepine panel, these drugs escape detection.

CRL has a standard 16-panel benzodiazepines offering. These include drugs commonly prescribed in the United States to treat anxiety and alcohol withdrawal, as well as those used as muscle relaxants and for seizure control. More recently, CRL has validated an additional seven designer benzodiazepine drugs to expand the standard panel in an effort to detect illicit benzodiazepines.

Oral Fluid Testing

Lab-based oral fluid testing is an attractive drug screening solution, matching the advantages of urine testing while eliminating collection hassles and specimen integrity concerns.

Oral fluid samples can be collected anytime, anywhere, mitigating the need for special collection facilities. Oral fluid collections are easy to conduct and, unlike a urine test, are performed by the donor in the presence of an observer — virtually eliminating the risk of adulterated samples. And since you have the option to conveniently collect samples on site — anywhere from a small conference room to an office — you eliminate scheduling hassles and collection fees associated with clinics.

Best of all, the whole process takes just a few minutes, with negative results available from CRL the next day and confirmed positives reported within 48 hours of receipt. Oral Fluid Testing provides a smart and reliable alternative to urine drug testing for the most common drugs of abuse, including:

  • THC
  • Opiates
  • PCP
  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamines
  • Methamphetamines
  • Barbiturates
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Methadone
  • Hydrocodone
  • Hydromorphone
  • Oxycodone
  • Oxymorphone
  • MDMA/Ecstasy
  • Buprenorphine
