Microtainer Blood Collection

Microtainer Blood Collection

Each kit contains:

  • Instructions for Use
  • Shoulder-Based Lancet
  • BD Microtainer Tube
  • Alcohol Pad
  • Heat Pack
  • Gauze Pad
  • Bandage
  • Return Bag with Absorbent Pad
  • Collection Date Form
  • FedEx Shipping Pouch
  • Return Shipping Label

 

Preparation for Collection

  1. Wash hands thoroughly and identify the collection site on the upper arm. Remove hair if necessary for better adhesion.
  2. Gather all kit items and remove the device from its tray.
  3. Twist and remove the cap from the microtainer tube. Press the tube into the device until snug.
  4. Activate the heat pack. If it does not heat up, discard the heat pack and use hand instead to warm the area.
  5. Warm the collection site with activated heat pack or rub site by hand for 4 minutes.
  6. Remove the clear plastic cover over the red button.

Collect Sample

  1. Peel adhesive tab away from the device.
  2. Stick the device to collection site. Let the arm hang straight down.
  3. Press button all the way down once and release.
  4. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Blood may take 1–2 minutes to appear. Remove earlier if blood reaches the top fill line.
  5. Remove the device by peeling from one side. Apply the bandage if needed.
  6. Remove the tube component of the device with a slight twist and pull down.
  7. Snap the cap fully onto the tube.
  8. Invert the tube gently 10 times to mix the blood. Tap or flick to help blood move.
  9. Write the user's Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY) on the tube label above the barcode.
  10. Place the tube in the Sample Return Bag and seal it. Do not remove the absorbent pad.
  11. If the collection kit includes an additional collection device and microtainer, repeat steps for Preparation and Collection.

Ship the Sample to the Laboratory

  1. Remove all other items from the original shipping box. Place the Sample Return Bag and Collection Date Form inside.
  2. Close the box and place it in the FedEx shipping pouch. Attach the return shipping label.
  3. Drop off at any FedEx location or call 1-800-463-3339 to schedule a pickup. Specify it is a prepaid overnight shipment.
  4. Dispose of used materials according to local guidelines. Wash hands after use.
